Smash Daddies is built on a simple belief: no matter who you are, what we all share in common is everybody eats — food brings people together — so, build the table where Everybody Eats!

The idea began during one of Texas’ winter freeze emergencies when Stef “Papa Smash” Finley and his son, Deklan, stepped up to help neighbors get access to clean water. What they saw during that time was something powerful — how strong a community can be when people show up for each other.

Not long after, Papa Smash began serving smash burgers at the Elgin Farmer's Market as a donation-based effort designed to support whatever need might arise in the community next. What started as a simple act of service quickly grew into something bigger.

When tornadoes ripped through Elgin and our neighbors were hit hard, the mission became clear — Smash Daddies was able to accomplish exactly what it was built to do — mobilize to meet the need in our community. In coordination with the Grow Elgin Project, teams were organized to assist all those in need, while Smash Daddies kept the griddle hot, delivering food to feed the hungry work taking place all throughout the community. And afterwards, the food trailer was the place where first responders, families, and volunteers could gather for a hot meal and a moment to breathe.

Today, Smash Daddies proudly serves Elgin with the same spirit. The mission hasn’t changed — Seed the Need & Feed the Need —great food, strong community, and neighbors helping neighbors.

That spirit of service also carries into other community work Papa Smash is involved in through events at the VFW, with youth mentorship initiatives like the Elgin Knights. At the end of the day, Smash Daddies is about more than comfort food. It’s about the kind of community where people take care of each other. Food is the most basic thing that unites us — everybody eats. Join us in being a part of building the Community Table where Everybody Eats. Because around here, a great burger is just the beginning.
